Local law enforcement searching for escaped inmate

TARPON SPRINGS, Florida -- Authorities are searching for an escaped inmate.

Anthony Pruitt was last seen Friday night around 8:30 p.m. at the Tarpon Springs Work Release Center.

K-9 officers and air units have not been able to find him. Pruitt is 5'6" and weighs about 160 pounds. He also has a burn mark on the left side of his face.

If you have any information on Pruitt's whereabouts, contact police.

Good Samaritan catches man who attacked another with ax handle

Tarpon Springs, Florida -- A patron at a convenience store stepped up in a big way to help police catch a man who attacked a fellow homeless man with the handle of an ax Wednesday afternoon.

Mark Tucker told Tarpon Springs police officers he saw James Knott come up behind Brian Kennedy with a 3-foot wooden ax handle in his hands and hit the man in the head as he sat on the edge of the sidewalk in front of the EZ Stop & Shop on S Walton Avenue. 

Man charged in 'shattered window bandit' robberies

Tampa, Florida -- The U.S. State Attorney's Office has charged a man in connection with a slew of armed robberies at fast food restaurants spanning three counties.

Investigators say DNA evidence recovered at the scene of one of the robberies on Sept. 23 at a Papa John's restaurant on Gunn Highway matched that of 28-year-old Demetrius Bowers.

Pinellas County, Florida -- The numbers are alarming. Statistically, every 32 hours in Pinellas County someone dies of a drug overdose. In 2010, 280 people died of accidental drug overdoses with 249 of these deaths being due to abuse of prescription pain medication. 

A new, four-part series on Pinellas County Connection Television called "Fighting Back Against Prescription Drug Abuse" profiles the extent of the problem in Pinellas County and what local officials are doing to combat the issue through law enforcement, local ordinances and public education. 

Men wearing school sweatshirts rob liquor store

Tarpon Springs, Florida -- Police need your help identifying a pair of armed robbers who held up a liquor store last Friday.

Tarpon Police say two black men, wearing masks, entered Liquors of Tarpon, on South Pinellas Avenue, just before 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 12, and demanded cash from the register. One of the men held a dark colored handgun.

After getting a large amount of cash, the men grabbed a bottle of vodka from before running out of the store. A witness was not able to get a good look at their getaway car.

Police arrest Tarpon Springs shooting suspect

Tarpon Springs, Florida -- Detectives have arrested a man suspected of shooting a teen during a robbery attempt Saturday night.

Investigators say they received tips 35-year-old Elvin Joel Velez Pacheco was talking about the shooting to others. In addition, a cell phone dropped during the robbery by the suspect was also connected to Pacheco.

Teen shot during robbery attempt released from hospital

Tarpon Springs, Florida -- The teen who was shot during a robbery attempt Saturday night has been released from the hospital.

Tarpon Springs Police say 19-year-old Bradley Perez was shot by the armed robber while he struggled to disarm the man. Perez suffered a single gunshot wound to the abdomen and was treated at Bayfront Medical Center before his release Monday.
