Ricky Nelson's sons celebrate his career at concert

Tarpon Springs, Florida -- The late Ricky Nelson will be honored Friday evening by two of the people who knew him best--his sons Matthew and Gunnar Nelson.

The twins, who had a series of hits under the group name Nelson in the 1990s, will perform Ricky Nelson Remembered--a multimedia event featuring live music from some of their father's biggest hit songs like "Hello Mary Lou," "Travelin' Man," and "Garden Party."

Pinellas County, Florida -- Bring family and friends to enjoy FREE film classics and music each Thursday evening in May on St. Petersburg's beautiful downtown waterfront in North Straub Park. The movies and music events are produced by St. Petersburg Preservation.

The fun begins with music at 7 pm and movies at dark on the Beach Drive side of the park, between 4th and 5th Avenues NE. Movies are free; pay-what-you-can donations appreciated.

Touch-a-Truck returns on Saturday!

Tarpon Springs, Florida -- This weekend is your chance to get a hands-on experience with fire engines and police cars.

The City of Tarpon Springs is once again holding a "Touch-a-Truck" event on Saturday, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.  Kids (and adults) will get an up-close and personal look at fire engines, police cruisers and the city's heavy equipment trucks.

The city is also offering a special Arbor Day tree giveaway for city residents (limit two trees per family.)  There will also be safety presentations, prizes and golf instruction.

Pinellas County, Florida -- Registration is now open for one-week children’s summer camps at Brooker Creek and Weedon Island preserves. 

The Brooker Creek Preserve will offer a Herpetology Camp for children ages 7 to 11. 

Herpetology Camp participants will explore the fascinating world of amphibians and reptiles through close encounters with a variety of animals, including tortoises, frogs, lizards and snakes. The camp will be led by wildlife biologist and environmental educator George L. Heinrich.

Wild 94.1 to host Throwback Prom!

Tampa, Florida-- Since when does prom have to be high school student specific?!...It's a question Tampa Bay's Wild 94.1 considered before ultimately deciding- it doesn't!

That's why "The Bay's Party Station" is hosting an old school themed, "Throwback Prom" for adults on Saturday, April 27.

Attendees will relive old memories and create new ones while jamming to live entertainment from the Robert Erness Band and the Wild 94.1 Bomb Squad. Hors'douvres will also be served.

Tarpon Springs, Florida -- The Oscar-winning film "Lincoln" will be screened this weekend for free at the Tarpon Springs Library.

The film, which chonicles the life of President Abraham Lincoln and the political struggles he faced during the Civil War, is directed by Steven Spielberg and stars Daniel Day-Lewis (Oscar for best actor.)  The film will be shown at 11:00am on Saturday.  The movie screening is free of charge, but seating is limited to the rirst 80 people.

The screening is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Tarpon Springs, Florida -- Tarpon Springs Aquarium feeds live sharks every Saturday. 

Feedings take place multiple times throughout the day:

  • 11:30 p.m. 
  • 1:00 p.m.
  • 2:30 p.m.
  • 4:00 p.m.

Visitors can stroll through the 120,000 gallon reef-shark exhibit. 

The cost of admission is $12 to get into the aquarium.
