Pinellas County, Florida -- To mark National HIV Testing Day on Friday, June 28, a partnership of several Pinellas community health organizations will be offering health screenings, vaccines and HIV tests at no cost.

The Pinellas Planning Partnership is collaborating on the community event from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Walgreens, 3350 Central Ave., St. Petersburg, to provide the screenings. No appointments are necessary.

Palm Harbor, Florida -- Coming up in July the Brooker Creek Preserve will be meeting to discuss books about Florida. 

The Brooker Book Club meets the first Saturday of each month and meets to discuss works by Florida authors, past and present, with archeology, biography, politics and history storylines. 

The book selection for discussion on July 6 is Star Island by Carl Hiaasen. The book club meets from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m..

The book club is free although advance registration is required because seating is limited.

Tarpon Springs, Florida -- Nia Vardalos is coming to Tarpon Springs!

Best known for her movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," now she is promoting her book "Instant Mom."

It will be a book-signing and dinner dance on Saturday, June 22 and doors open at 6:00 p.m. 

A donation of $60.00 is the cost for dinner and a personally autographed book. All proceeds benefiting The Children's Home, Inc. 

There will be limited seating and all tickets must be pre-purchased.

Tickets may be purchased at "Given with Love" at 526 Athens Street, Tarpon Springs.

Seminole, Florida -- It's the last day for Pinellas County students- so end it with a party!

Wednesday, June 5, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is hosting Kid's Appreciation Day. 

Kid's Appreciation Day will include free refreshments, games, prizes and other contests mostly geared towards elementary children. 

The Sheriff's Office will be on site kicking off their summer safety initiative by teaching kids bicycle safety and giving parents tips on how to keep their children safe during the summer months.

Pinellas County, Florida -- Numerous hiking opportunities continue at Weedon Island Preserve in June. Each Saturday beginning at 9 a.m., participants learn about the ecosystems and early residents of Weedon Island Preserve in these two-hour guided hikes. The hikes along the coastal uplands and along boardwalks through mangrove forests are best for ages 6 and older.
