Kayaker found unhurt near Tarpon Springs | News

Tarpon Springs, Florida - A helicopter and two boats from the St. Petersburg Coast Guard station spent most of Sunday morning searching for a 25-year-old kayaker who had been missing since Saturday.

David Hoffmann launched his 15-foot, one-person kayak from Bayshore Drive in Tarpon Springs Saturday afternoon.

Hoffmann was found Sunday before noon paddling to shore and is in good condition.

Officials say Hoffmann got caught by low tide and spent the night on an island until the water was deep enough to return to shore.

Several agencies helped in the search for Hoffmann including the Tarpon Springs Police Department and the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.
