TARPON SPRINGS, Florida -- A much-needed boardwalk project at Sunset Beach is on track to be completed in a few weeks thanks, in part, to a fourth grader.
Aidan Rooney travels to Sunset Beach regularly, but recently noticed the kiosk that welcomes tourists and visitors was run down and dilapidated. In order to fix it, he decided to raise money making ornaments filled with shells and sand from the very beach he wanted to help.
"You're never too small to pitch in with your community," Rooney says.
The $202 he raised ended up playing a big role in repairing the kiosk, which is now under construction along with a new boardwalk. The rest of the money for the project came from grants.
"To use that money to beautify your city, to me, just shows the type of individual that Aidan is," says Tarpon Springs Mayor David Archie.
