Pinellas County, Florida -- The Housing Finance Authority of Pinellas County has lowered the interest rate on its First Time Homebuyers Program to 2.99 percent. The 30-year, fixed-rate mortgage program is for individuals living in Pinellas, Pasco and Polk counties who have never owned a home, have not owned a home in the last three years or veterans.

Pinellas County, Florida -- For women who have no insurance and are too young for Medicare often cannot afford to get these lifesaving screenings like mamograms and cervical screenings.In Florida, there's a state resource that can provide these screenings at no cost for those who qualify.

Women between the ages of 50 and 64 who cannot afford mammograms and cervical cancer screenings can apply to receive these tests at no cost through the Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (BCCEDP) at the Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County.

Pinellas County, Florida -- Give Kids a Smile Pinellas will be offering free dental service for qualifying children on Feb. 22.

Volunteer dentists and other team members at participating dental offices throughout Pinellas will be providing the dental services.

Parents need to contact the School Social Worker at your child's school to complete the needed application. Availability is limited so parents should act as soon as possible.

Qualfying Factors include:

1. Child is between the age of 4 and 14 years old

Humane Society of Pinellas to host Low Cost Vaccine Clinic

Pinellas Co., FL-- The Humane Society of Pinellas will host a Low Cost Vaccine Clinic for your pet next weekend. 

According to their website, you may bring your pets to get vaccinated, have their nails trimmed and their ears cleaned- though they say capacity is limited, so get there early!

The event takes place Saturday, November 3 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Humane Society of Pinellas, 3040 State Road 590 Clearwater, FL 33759.

Pinellas County Extension annual 4-H apple/pecan sale

The annual 4-H apple and pecan sale sponsored by the Pinellas County 4-H Association is now in full swing.  This sale is the main fundraiser for the 4-H Association.

Each year, the Pinellas County 4-H Association awards $6,000 in grants for 4-H camps and trips, 4-H Legislature, 4-H Congress and, most recently, college scholarships.

This year, the sale is featuring Yellow Delicious and Empire apples.  Both varieties are excellent for baking, cooking or just eating.

Belle of the Ball to hand out homecoming dresses to those in need

Seminole, Florida-- The Belle of the Ball Project will distribute homecoming dresses to high school girls from low-income families in Pinellas and Hillsborough Counties. The event kicks off today at 10 a.m. and will last through 2 p.m. at the Seminole Mall.

Unable to make it today? Don't worry; almost 4,000 quality dresses will be there for the choosing (along with shoes and purses!) on October 6 and 20, and again on November 3.
