5K race to help Tarpon High band get to Macy's Parade

Tarpon Springs, Florida -- In just a few months, the Tarpon Springs High School Marching Band will be performing before a national audience at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.

The route is a little over 2.6 miles. You can help them get to the parade by running five kilometers.

On Saturday at 8:30 a.m., the school is hosting a fundraiser for the marching band, called "Band on the Run." It's a 5K race and a one-mile family fun run. The cost is just $35 for the 5K and $20 for the one-mile run if you register before April 25.

FDOT is teaming up with the Tampa Bay Rays and will be present at the game today to hand out free safety materials to fans.

Pinellas County preserve has new April programs

Pinellas County, Florida -- Many hiking opportunities are available at Weedon Island Preserve in April.

Regular two-hour guided hikes begin at 9 a.m. each Saturday. Participants learn about the ecosystems and early residents of Weedon Island Preserve while hiking the coastal uplands and along boardwalks through mangrove forests. The hikes are best for ages 6 and older.

Pinellas County, Florida -- Time is running out to sign up for Viva Las Chicas 2nd annual bike ride Pedaling for Pink on March 2 to help raise money to help Tampa Bay families affected by a cancer diagnosis.

The one-day ride through Pinellas County will include a 5-mile, 32-mile, and a 64-mile route.

The bicycling event is designed for families and diehard riders alike, with something for everyone. It is a day to celebrate life with loved ones, friends, and hopefully, new acquaintances!

Largo, Florida -- Gulf Coast Giving is holding their annual Upgrade 2 Success 5K - 1-mile Run/Walk Easter Hop to help raise money for Pinellas County Schools and registration is now open!

The event features a family fun morning packed with great race perks including a surprise visit from the Easter Bunny & Easter egg hunt.  Race perks also include race T-shirt, music, food, water stations, silent auction, raffle by bib number, giveaways, finisher medals and arts & crafts for the kids.

Tarpon Springs, Florida -- You can hit the links this weekend and help out Pinellas County children.

The Sheriff's Police Athletic League (PAL) and Wentworth Golf Club are sponsoring "A Christmas Giving Golf Outing" Saturday to benefit the children of PAL. The money will help pay for the PAL Center's activities during the holidays and all year long. The PAL Center offers children mentoring and tools to grow into successful citizens.
